SHELTER UPDATE
After dealing with NO water on a few occasions last month, we finally discovered that the pump that brings water up from the underground lake needed to be replaced, along with 30 meters of pipe and electrical cables! We have no idea how old the pump was but it was there 15 years ago when we acquired the property. The new and very expensive pump is installed!
The older kittens who were never socialized and not good candidates for adoption were released to live in the yard, bring the count close to 200 cats living in the gardens. We’ve discovered that they have many hiding places and also like to explore the property just on the other side of the fence…..where a herd of goats also live and graze. They seem to get along OK! The problem with so many is that they do not have enough covered areas to shelter during the rainy season, so we are exploring the idea of erecting another simple rain shelter/feeding station before the summer storms begin. Donations are always appreciated as this is the only way we have to keep the shelter running during these difficult times. Learn how you can contribute at https://purrproject.com/donate/
THE PURR NURSERY
We only had 6 new kitties in February (as opposed to 21 in January) so the vets have been able to concentrate on working on health issues with some of the older felines in the gardens. We also had 18 adoptions at Petco so far this year and 3 others that flew to Chicago. The PuRR Nursery still has plenty of kittens but we are not at the critical stage we were at a couple of months ago! Last week Jose found a box with a mama Tortie and her three orange babies left at the gate…..now safe in the maternity bungalow.
2022 PURR PROJECT CALENDAR
MAKE YOUR “PURR PROJECT-ADOPTED” FELINE A SUPERSTAR!
Back in 2013, when we first started doing our yearly benefit calendar for Purr Project, we invited people who had adopted a cat from our shelter to send some pictures for a chance to have their cat(s) featured in the following year’s calendar.
This year, the contest is BACK!!!!!
Here’s how you can enter:
– Have a cat or cats that were adopted from PuRR Project (only cats originally from our shelter are eligible to enter)
– Take beautiful “high resolution” pictures of your feline(s) – See below for the specific requirements for the images.
– Write a little short history (story) about that specific feline to give us some background
– Send your pics and story to info@PurrProject.com and put 2022 Calendar Entry! as the subject title.
IMAGE REQUIREMENTS:
– Images must be high resolution – at least 4000px x 3000px or more in size (more is definitely better!!) If you can shoot at 300dpi that would be best or use whatever larger setting is available in your camera. It is ok to take pics of your Purr feline with other animal family members from a different race; in the past, we have featured pics of our adopted cats with rabbits, sheep etc! We love those too!
– Take landscape style pictures (horizontal) rather than vertical.
– Please DO NOT MODIFY any of the images, crop, color adjust or pass them through any image software as this may cause loss of quality and cause your image to end up being unuseable. Just send them as you shot them… our wonderful graphic designer Griffin Graffix takes care of all the rest!
That’s it!!! It’s that simple!! So get your camera out and send us your beautiful feline pics today!
100% of the proceeds from our yearly PuRR Project calendar defray the costs for vets, food, medicine and maintenance of the shelter.
