ADOPTIONS – UKI & ULYSSES

A cruise ship in port

The Odyssey in port

Last month we received an email from Shari Stone-Ulrich who was interested in adopting two bonded kitties. Great!! The only catch is that she lives on a residential cruise ship, the ODYSSEY, which would be in port here in Puerto Vallarta for two days on May 14 & 15! She had already received permission to bring aboard two cats and had all the necessary supplies. They would have to be spayed or neutered, be micro-chipped, vaccinated and have a valid international health record.

Shari meets Uki & Ulysses

It was a scramble but we did it!! We chose a brother and sister that we felt would be purr-fect travelers and started getting all the paperwork together. Shari met Dra. Eva and Bama at Sabuesos Clinic on May 14th and was introduced to siblings Uki and Ulysses. She was delighted and they were all soon settled into their new quarters on the ship. (There are currently 6 other cats living on the Odyssey and there is a special deck for them.) They sailed off on May 15 to continue the 3 1/2 year trip to ports all around the world, ending up back in Belfast and then turning around and doing it again! Bon Voyage!

VIRTUAL ADOPTIONS

Grey and white cat with one eye

Miss Betty

A Virtual Adoption cat would make a great gift for yourself or a cat-loving friend or family member! They are usually older cats that have little hope of finding a Forever Home. Many were just passed over for adoption as kittens and others are feral or have a disability such as one eye (like Betty!). For only $120 you can help us continue to give these adult cats a safe home and medical care for life. You can learn how to virtually adopt and also meet all the candidates by going to our website at https://purrproject.com/adopt/ or write us at adopt@purrproject.com.

DONATING: WAYS TO DONATE

We’re going into the season where we really depend upon individual donations to fund the shelter until next November. You can go to the DONATE page on our website for ways to do that! Or you can Virtually Adopt a Cat. We always welcome donations of food, litter & cleaning supplies. We recently received a donation of 10 cat trees from Catherine Googlia & Jim Shoemaker!!! We took one load to the shelter and the rest will get there as needed. Our kitties love cat trees!

SHELTER UPDATE

the yard in the shelter filled with lots of different catsWe took in 24 abandoned kittens and 2 mama cats in May. Added to the 35 in April, that’s a LOT of new cats to care for. We had 4 PetCo adoptions in May and another 3 by other means. Many of our regular volunteers are gone for the summer or heading off for a vacation. It’s getting HOT and is very dry & dusty this time of year! We eagerly await the summer rains which usually start in late June. At the same time we dread the summer thunderstorms that sometimes bring high winds and flooding….life in the tropics!

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!
