PIRATE’S JOURNEY

PuRR Project kitty, Pirate, gets ready to fly out of Puerto Vallarta

Pirate gets ready to fly!

We don’t know exactly where Pirate’s long journey started but we know where it has ended! In March of 2022, we were contacted by a young lady who had found a gray and white kitty wandering the streets in her Puerto Vallarta neighborhood. He had only one beautiful eye and but was very friendly and we agreed to take him. Dra. Eva estimated him to be about 8 months old at that time, and after tending to the damaged eye, he went to live in the Senior Center, where he was given lots of love.

One year later, PuRR volunteer Brenda Gill decided that he was the purr-fect cat to be her new companion and brought him to her winter home in Vallarta! He quickly

adapted and obviously adored his new mom. In May they flew to California for the summer and Brenda reports he was a good traveler and has spent every waking moment exploring his new home and playing with all his toys! His long journey has ended.

SHELTER UPDATE

Handful of kittens at PuRR Project in Puerto Vallarta

Handful of kittens!

It’s “kitten season” so no surprise that we ended up with 29 new cats & kittens at the shelter last month, many as young as 2 or 3 weeks old. A few went home with foster Catherine Goglia, but most are settled in one of the nurseries. Unfortunately, adoptions have been very slow so we urgently need homes for some of our kitties! We bring a selection to PetCo every Saturday and Sunday so please stop by and meet what could be YOUR new best furry friend.

Hilda checks out the new washing machine!

You probably can imagine how much laundry 4 adults, 6 children and 300 cats and 3 dogs go through each week! When our latest washing machine quit working and after a week of “no show” by the maintenance company, we were forced to buy a new large capacity machine. Hilda is thrilled to finally be able to wash the stacks of dirty laundry.

DONATIONS

Caleb, Aviana & Lindsay at PuRR Project in Puerto Vallarta

Caleb, Aviana & Lindsay

We were recently surprised when contacted by Lindsay Cullen who said her children had a donation for PuRR. Caleb and Aviana had celebrated their 9th birthday by asking friends to bring a donation for the kitties instead of presents to their party. They collected $6,000 pesos!! We invited the group to come visit the shelter when school is out and they can’t wait! Our shelter is supported solely by your donations! Check out our DONATE page to see ways you can show your support: https://purrproject.com/donate/

AND….thanks to Lindsay and AMSTAR DMC for finding an anonymous donor to build PUPPYLAND for A Dog’s New Life, as well as bringing electricity to their shelter, 25 new dog crates & elevated beds and much more! We are all so grateful to this support for all animal rescue groups in the Banderas Bay.

Virtually Adopting one of our cats is a great way to show your support! These are usually older cats that have little hope of finding a Forever Home. Many have disabilities or may be just too feral to be adopted. YOU can “Virtually Adopt” one of these felines for yourself or as a gift to a feline-loving friend for only $120 a year and help us continue to give these adult cats a safe home and medical care for life. You can learn how to virtually adopt and also meet all the candidates by going to our website at https://purrproject.com/adopt/

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE ARIGATO!
