PuRR Project June 2020 newsletter

Newsletter – June 1st 2020

LOOKING BACK: JUNE 2011

Jose moved into the ranch house with wife Hilda plus two babies and his mom. Two more would soon follow (and he promises no more!!)

We started Friday adoptions at Plaza Marina and continued Saturday adoptions at the Old Town Farmer’s Market all summer long!

Regular Loteria games were still being held at No Way Jose and summer BINGO nights at Que? Pasa started in June.

We changed our working name from Pet Heaven to Purr Project with a great new logo from Griffin Graffix!

We started the lengthy process of getting our non-profit status with the IRS in the United States as Purr Project USA, Inc.

A June 10 newsletter reported over 50 tiny ones in the old Kitten Bungalows!!!!!!! We have 63 this June, but at least they have three roomy tiled casitas with lighting and ceiling fans and cat trees to climb on.

We were basically out of money and facing a long summer.

SHELTER UPDATE: LINDA’S CASITA

Acclimation Casita

Acclimation Casita “Before”

The good news is that renovation was completed on the old Acclimation building! Fred and Linda Marshall were long-time supporters since back in the days of “Pet Heaven”. Fred was instrumental in helping us get through all the steps to get our 501(c)(3) non-profit status as PuRR Project USA, Inc. Usually visiting in December, the Luau on the Beach was a favorite fundraiser for the couple. And they were always up for a visit to the ranch where Linda loved sitting among all the cats! When she passed away last year, Fred decided it would be a fitting memorial to Linda to name a new shelter project after her.

Linda's Casita

Linda’s Casita “After”

After a visit in December with his sister Carol and step-daughter Geri, it was decided to take on the large task of renovating the oldest casita on the property. The first step was to cut back the massive tree right above the building so the roof could be raised, allowing ceiling fans to be installed. We used the basic foundation, but replaced all the old termite riddled wood with steel beams. Tiled walls and benches, new screening and a “cat walk” were then added. Work was slowed when the pandemic hit, but the final result was amazing and “Linda’s Casita” is ready for it’s feline inhabitants!!

THE PURR NURSERY

Kittens checking out their new casita!

Kittens checking out their new casita!

Last month we reported 26 kittens in the nursery. This month it has more than doubled to 63!!!!! We have kittens everywhere……in the clinic, the little Bungalows, the Nursery, Macho’s House and the new renovated casita, plus 6 in foster homes. It was decided to use Linda’s Casita as the place to house all the ones that are ready for adoption, tested, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, socialized, etc. We’ve hired Dr. Alberto Cervantes to come one day a week to help Dra. Eva catch up on sterilizing kittens. The biggest problem now, is finding Furr-ever homes for so many of these cuties. If you are interested in adopting, contact Linda at adopt@purrproject.com

ADOPTION UPDATE: CLARA & CHIP

Adopted one year ago by Jerri Grant Ferrise, she reports that Clara and Chip are special little kitties. Clara is very adventurous and loves to climb the banana trees, while Chip prefers to hang out on the kitchen stool and observe food preparation.

They have a large “cataminium” for night time and a big secure enclosed yard to play in and explore by day. Three dogs and nine other cats in the family mean they always have someone to hang with!! Thank you Jeri and Fred for giving a safe and loving Furr-ever Home to so many rescued animals here in Puerto Vallarta: Otis, Anne, Tutsy, Pearlita, Maya, Timmy, Brother, Dali, Silencio, Noodles, Pin, Itty Bitty, Clara Belle and Chip.

FEATURED FELINE: LORETTA

This beautiful girl came to us in February when she was about 3 months old. By the time she was spayed, PetCo had closed the Adoption Center and she has not had a chance to find her Forever Home.  She is a Tuxedo with long silky fur and just needs a chance to be loved!  Contact us at adopt@purrproject.com if you would like to meet Loretta or any of our kittens.  MEOW!

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!
