SHELTER UPDATE

Two volunteers trimming a kitten's nails

Time for a kitty manicure!

After having a very unusual five named hurricanes or tropical storms on this coast in June, July was mostly dry and very HOT! We had 19 kittens and one cat abandoned at the shelter. We are very thankful to our regular volunteers who brave the heat to drive the vet to the shelter, clean the casitas, bathe kittens, assist Dra. Eva in giving meds and then spend time just loving a lot of kitties!

Ivana adopted at Petco!

With 82 kittens in every available space, the PuRR nursery casitas continue to be FULL. And July was our worst month EVER for adoptions with only 2. Hopefully this “kitten season” is finally over! Unfortunately, many of these kittens will never be adopted and will end up living their lives in the PuRR shelter gardens. Please consider checking out the kittens we send to PetCo every weekend when you are ready to share your home with a new Furry Friend!

Cats waiting to be adopted

Adoption day at MEGA

In one of our very early newsletters from July of 2011, we announced that the shelter was 150 over capacity with 70 kittens waiting to be spayed or neutered before going up for adoption. I guess some things just never change!! We were having summer BINGO at Que Pasa. Adoptions were on Fridays at Plaza Marina, plus other days at Blakes Bar and at MEGA in Bucerias. Our non-profit name of Pet Heaven was soon to become PuRR Project!

FEATURED FELINE: TOSTADA

A black and white kitty

Tostada is looking for you!

Not everyone wants or needs to adopt a young kitten. A mature cat is often a better choice, especially for us older folks! Miss Tostada would love to find that special someone and would make a wonderful companion. She is approximately 7 years old, healthy and currently residing in the PuRR Senior Center. For more information on her or other senior cats, contact Linda at adopt@purrproject.com

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!

A mom cat and her kittensA shout out to Cheryl Burt, Nancy Nelson, Kevin & Inge McGuinness and Linda Vazquez who took advantage of Casa Isabel’s “StayCation” and chose PuRR Project to receive the donation!! And Isabel Manore personally added $5,000 pesos to the donation! We also received generous donation last month from Richard Robertson, Derek & Jennifer Frankforth, Shari Stone-Ulrich and Kathy Lay!

As always, we are grateful for those monthly donors who are so essential to our success: The McCullough Family Gift Fund, Gary Phillips, Sharon & Ken Rose, Terri & Gray Levy, Joanne Bryla, Trisha Aljoe, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Catherine Goglia & Jim Shoemaker, Karen & Walt Trolson, Robert Weed, Jerry Petrizzo, Heidi Benedict, Thomas Bluer, Timothy Oleno, Larry Sherwood, Mary & Bob Fitzgerald, David Flannery
