SHELTER UPDATE
The brutal June heatwave finally ended briefly on July 1st with the passing of Hurricane Beatrice and some much needed rain! But like much of the world, July was extremely hot and humid with very little rain compared to what we usually have by this time. It’s tough on cats and humans alike. The highlight for all the shelter cats is when volunteers arrive each week. We honk the car horn and they all coming running to the front gate to greet us and wait for their treats!!! The good news is we did have a dozen adoptions at Petco! Remember, we bring adoptable kittens to the PetCo Adoption Center every weekend, where you can find your new Forever feline companion.

Valiente’s arrival at PuRR
Dra. Eva discovered this abandoned Tabby at the shelter last month. He was missing a portion of his front lower jaw in a recent injury…..perhaps a dog attack or maybe hit by a vehicle. In spite of this, he was able to eat and was very friendly. She cleaned his injury as best as she could and named him El Valiente, “The Brave One”. Now recovered and safe in a casita, he has become a favorite of volunteers and visitors and is ready to go to a loving Forever Home! OUR VET: DRA. EVA TORRES
Waiting for lunch!
We never know what new rescued baby animal, bird or aquatic creature Dra. Eva will show up at the shelter with…..opossums, iguanas, owls!! Last month it was two baby woodpeckers, one male and one female, that had fallen from a nest with no mother bird around. Like newborn kittens, they have to be fed every couple of hours, using tweezers for worms and a syringe for a high-protein mix. Our volunteers jumped right in to help!

for their own food before releasing them back into the wild! It’s a lot of work and we are so proud of our vet for all the extra time she devotes to her rescue organization.
ADOPTION UPDATES: MAC & NEMO

We love getting updates on our PuRR kitties that have gone to live north of the border!! In March, we reported that Mr. Pickles had a new name “Mac” and had made it safely to Nanaimo, BC with his new mom & dad, Bobbi & Mike Ireland. Mike recently reported: “All 3 of our cats are now getting along well, especially Mac and Mateo. They spend a fair bit of time wrestling and chasing each other around the house. So far nothing broken!

contacted her friend Sue Bossley about adopting a kitty from Mexico. Sue contacted PuRR volunteer Catherine Goglia who helped her choose a kitty and made all the arrangements to get Nemo to Amber! Sometimes it really DOES take a village!
