SHELTER UPDATE
March was a good month with no big emergencies or storms or floods or falling trees at the shelter! Our Thursday volunteers took time to do some “Spring Cleaning” in the clinic as well as lots of kitten bathing and cat cuddling and scooping litter boxes.
Unfortunately, it was an unusually slow month for adoptions with only one kitten finding a Furr-ever Home at PetCo in March. Plus we had 19 kittens dumped at the shelter (ten in one day) and one tiny rescue from the Isla Cuale with a broken leg. Dra. Eva took little “Anakin” home to care for until he is big enough for surgery. Trisha Aljoe took four of the teeny siblings home with her to foster. Hopefully April will bring luck and more adoptions! You can contact Bama at
adopt@purrproject.com for more information or come see us at PetCo every Saturday and Sunday.
TOP TEN REASONS TO ADOPT A CAT
Anonymous Quote: “Thousands of years ago, cats were worshiped as Gods. Cats have never forgotten this.”
It’s true…..the ancient Egyptians regarded the cat as a sacred creature. It was in Egypt that the cat was first domesticated 4,000 years ago and these small creatures were so fascinating that the culture was devoted to protecting them. The penalty for killing a cat was death! Exportation of cats was forbidden and entire armies were sent to recapture cats smuggled to foreign lands. OK, maybe that’s carrying it a little too far, but there are still many good reasons why YOU should have at least one furry feline god or goddess in your home today!
1) They groom themselves.
2) They’re good listeners.
3) They share their catch.
4) They’ll share your bed, but never ask for alimony.
5) They don’t need to be walked.
6) They never tell your secrets.
7) They like to play ping-pong.
8) They know when you need a cuddle.
9) They don’t get upset when you come home late.
10) They set the bar in softness.
ADOPTION UPDATE: Cleopatra
We love to hear happy news from adopters like Faye Cardenas and Keith Cowan:
“Keith and I waited a long 5 years, after our first two “boys” crossed the rainbow bridge, before meeting the perfect little new family member for us. We fell for her immediately when we met her in January at the PetCo Adoption Center. Cleopatra, aka Cleo, and her siblings, were apparently tossed into a dog shelter as newborns. The lady who ran the shelter was kind enough to inform the Purr Project and they agreed to take them in.
Cleo will live as we do…. half the year in Puerto Vallarta and half the year in West Vancouver, Canada. She is an energetic, very intelligent, and very happy kitten. We are all very much in love. Thank you Purr Project! You have added even more joy to our already joyful lives. We are very grateful!”
GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!
It has been a year since we all had to begin to deal with the disruptions of shutdowns and unknowns due to the pandemic. We are thankful for the generosity of donors who stepped in and made sure the shelter and all it’s inhabitants were cared for. This past month we received donations from: Rita Leone & Mark Sinreich, Richard Robertson, Rosemary & Paul Shaw, Connie Argus & Thom Barnes, Joyce & Greg Nordquist, Jerald & Kathy Baillie and Judy Carlsen, We are especially grateful for monthly donations from Gary Phillips, Sharon & Ken Rose, Sandy & Pat Glenn, Heidi Benedict, Robert Weed, Timothy OLeary, Elizabeth Fueherham and Larry Sherwood.
