SHELTER UPDATE

Fred & Linda Marshall visiting the shelter with Marilyn in 2012.

Like most of the world, we are still in a state of shock at recent events and trying our best to figure out things on a day-to-day basis. The governor of Jalisco ordered a state-wide “Stay at Home” mandate on March 21 along with restrictions on bars, restaurants, theaters and other places where crowds can gather. Schools have been closed for several weeks. Regardless, we still have to purchase and deliver supplies to the shelter each week! So far, there has been no shortage of kibble, litter and basic cleaning supplies at COSTCO. There is NO hand sanitizer, alcohol, Lysol spray or Clorox wipes anywhere.

The long hot summer is always difficult but this one is surely going to be one for the record books. We just want to keep our volunteers, our vet, the families that live at the shelter…….and of course all the kitties……safe and healthy!!! Many thanks to all of you for your continued support and hoping all of YOU also stay safe!

GOOD NEWS!! We do have SOME good news! A grant was received from Terri and Gray Levy to update and expand the little isolation bungalows to include a fourth and larger maternity bungalow. A donation from Fred Marshall to honor his late wife has allowed us to begin total renovation of the old Acclimation building and “Linda’s Welcome Casita” will soon be finished. We’ll have more on this story and photos to share of both by next month and we are thankful for these generous donors!

UPCOMING EVENTS

In view of the current situation, there are no upcoming events planned!!!! We had to cancel the last two Shelter Tours, Kitty BINGO and a planned Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at Daiquiri Dick’s. The May 9 Garage Sale will likely be postponed, though we are still accepting donations of items for the sale. The Saturday Adoption Booth at Daiquiri Dick’s is also canceled (along with all the craft markets). Weekend adoptions at PetCo are canceled until further notice. Any donations, large or small, will be welcomed to help us get through what will be a difficult summer. https://purrproject.com/donate/

One way you can support the shelter is by Virtually Adopting one of our cats that will likely never have a home other than the shelter. It’s only $120 or $10 a month. It also makes a great gift for a cat-loving friend!!! Get all the information at: https://purrproject.com/adopt/

KITTENS, KITTENS, KITTENS!

Who doesn’t like to look at kittens! We have so many that need homes immediately or that will be ready for adoption soon. With the Adoption Post at Daiquiri Dick’s cancelled and PetCo in doubt over the next few weeks, we hope that we can find Forever Homes for some of these adorable PuRR kitties. Contact Linda at adopt@purrproject.com if YOU would like to adopt.
