SHELTER UPDATE
Last month we were grateful that the summer storms had brought no flooding or wind damage…..we spoke too soon! Extremely high winds one Sunday evening brought a large tree crashing down right in the middle of the yard! Fortunately, the only victim was the plastic visitor’s table, but it took three truckloads to remove the debris. In the meantime, the yard cats actually loved their new “cat tree” to perch on!
We continue to be overwhelmed with kittens! This has been such a slow summer for adoptions and we still have around 40 kittens of all ages, sizes &
colors who need to find homes. We’ve got them in the clinic, the nursery, the maternity room and everywhere Eva can find some space. Over crowding is a big problem and causes stress and we simply can’t take more until some of these babies are adopted.
SHELTER VISITS
Last month we posted the dated for official Shelter Tours for the coming season, every other Wednesday starting November 14. It’s easy to go to our website and get all the information on how to make YOUR reservation: https://purrproject.com/shelter-visits/
There’s no other way you can spend such a fun morning for only $20 dollars! Plus a chance to get up close and personal with so many kittens and cats who crave the attention. So sign up today if you live in Vallarta or plan to visit this winter.
OUR VET, DRA. EVA CAMPOS
We think Dra. Eva is the greatest! She loves felines and can name almost every one of the many cats & kittens in the PuRR shelter! She is a respected full time veterinarian at Sabueso’s Clinic in Puerto Vallarta, so we are grateful that she can take the time to travel all the way out to the shelter twice a week to tend to the medical needs of our cats and kittens.
But not many people realize she is also an expert in marine reptiles and is the go-to vet when a crocodile needs medical help! She also assists Dr. Alejandro when he needs help with the BIG cats who live at El Tigre….and recently did a health
check-up on 14-year old “Lukas” the Leopard. She has also nursed back to health injured iguanas, river otters, barn owls, opossums, and last week it was baby squirrels!
VIRTUAL ADOPTION
Last month was Virtual Adoption Month and we want to give a special thanks to Sharon Rose who volunteered to help Bama keep track of adoptions and send out reminders and photos to people who have virtually adopted a PuRR feline. Several people expressed gratitude for those reminders and promptly renewed their sponsorships! Monica Rose was in town for a visit and stopped by the shelter to say “hola” to her EIGHT Virtual Kitties!! If YOU would like a sponsor your own PuRR kitty, you’ll find all the information at: https://purrproject.com/adopt/
GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!
We could not survive without YOUR support of our various fundraisers and generosity of private donations! Thanks for recent donations by Nina & Nosh Vellani, Faye Cardenas & Keith Cowan, Heather Sullivan, Gary Phillips, Charlie & Carol McCullough, Larry Sherwood, Heidi Benedict, Sherri Narro, Jalene Taylor, Allyna Vinberg, Sucesos Boutique, and Kristen Wilmsen. If you would like to make a donation to support the 200+ PuRR felines, get all the information on our website at https://purrproject.com/donate/
Thanks to donations, our vet was able to make 8 extra trips to the shelter this summer, specifically for the cats who live in the yard. With SO MANY new kittens, it is hard to find time to give special attention to the older cats. Eight seniors were sent for extensive dental surgery and are doing good.
