SHELTER RECAP 2017

PuRR Project - Nursery Dec 2016

Since last January, the PuRR Shelter took in 128 felines (same as 2016) and found Forever Homes for 94…..up from 74 last year! 50 of the adoptions were from the Plaza Marina Friday booth and the rest were from the shelter, FaceBook or through volunteers. There is a lot of competition from all the rescue groups to find homes for kittens and it gets tougher every year. Our hope is that the on-going efforts to control unwanted animals through the various FREE spay-neuter clinics will gradually make a difference in our communities in Banderas Bay! PEACE weekly clinics sterilize over 5,000 dogs and cats each year and this year the monthly Cuale Clinics sterilized 880!!!!

As of today, we have 25 kittens in the Nursery. All our kittens are tested for FIV/Leukemia, dewormed and monitored until they are deemed to be healthy enough to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated and ready to meet the outside world….and hopefully spend the rest of their lives in a loving home. For more information on adoptions, contact Bama at adopt@purrproject.com

FEATURED FELINE: PASTOR

PuRR Project - Pastor

Pastor wants a Furr-ever Home!

Named after a Mexican specialty, tacos “pastor”, Pastor is an orange and white Tabby with big beautiful green eyes. He is as sweet as he is handsome and would be a loving companion. He came to us in the summer of 2016 when he was about 8 months old and after testing and vaccinations, went to live in the Acclimations Casita where he still resides today! If you are interested in adopting Pastor or one of our adult felines, we have plenty! Just contact Bama at adopt@purrproject.com for more information, or plan a Shelter Visit to meet him in person!

ADOPTION UPDATE: SPARKY

PuRR Project - Sparky and Connie

Connie & Sparky adopt each other.

PuRR volunteer Connie Kelly wasn’t sure she was ready for another kitty after losing two beloved pets over the last two years……but she agreed to give 2-year old Castillo a trial. It was love at first sight and took all of about a minute for her to name him “Sparky” and for him to adopt HER and decide he had found his FuRR-ever Home!! She says it was the best Christmas gift ever. Another great adoption for a PuRR adult cat. MEOW.

SHELTER NEWS

PuRR Project shelter

Jose, Hilda, Carlos, Marisol and their children.

Taking care of 200+ cats in the shelter is a lot of work…..7 days a week, 365 days a year…. mopping the casitas daily, scooping poop and cleaning litter boxes, feeding twice daily, loads of laundry, taking special care of any kitties in the clinic, painting, doing yard work and much more! Jose and his brother Carlos do a great job for us, and we are pleased that in addition to all the rescue kitties, we are able to support two families. Most visitors will never realize that there are four adults and six children (and one dog) living in the little ranch house! Five of the children have lived there since birth and don’t know a life without cats.
